Hammarlund SP-600JX communications receiver, US military (JAN) specification. It was aligned and had appropriate valves (easily obtained B7G series) replaced by myself some years ago.Performance is well in excess of the book figures in terms of sensitivity, and voltage tests were satisfactory.Apart from valves,no components needed replacing. This receiver was built with very high quality components, far superior to an Eddystone of similar era,and quite different to the HQ- series of Hammarlund. The mechanical design is also superior, with a turret type band change (540Khz-54MHz) system operating a very precise pointer which rises and falls across the main tuning scales. The righthand dial is a reduction geared logging scale. There is variable selectivity in the 455kHz IF and a variable selectivity single crystal filter.
Front panel condition is excellent, with intact original satin grey paint and bright white painted lettering. All the knobs are original, undamaged and shiny, with the correct aluminium graduated skirts. All the chrome plated toggle switches are original. The very intricate tuning dial graduations are perfect, and even the dial glasses are clean.
This is the rack mounting model, fitted into a non-original cabinet,of unknown origin, with brushed aluminium picture-frame type surrounds front and rear and a ripple painted steel body. The condition of the cabinet is OK,but in no way comparable to the beautiful condition of the radio.
The mains input is set up for UK mains voltage but can be adjusted for 110v.Speaker output is 600 Ohm,and there is a headphone socket on the front. There is a very detailed photocopy manual including photographs and diagrams of component location in addition to the schematic.
The radio itself weighs 66lbs.,and the cabinet is at least another 15lb.It is not suitable for despatch by the postal service, and I am not willing to take responsibility for sending it by a carrier.Collection by an able-bodied person (the radio lives in an upstairs bedroom) would be needed.PayPal or cash on collection.
